International Society for Individual Liberty

The International Society for Individual Liberty (ISIL) is a non-profit, libertarian educational organization based in San Francisco. It encourages activism in libertarian and individual rights areas by the 'freely chosen strategies' of its members. Its history dates back to 1969〔(History at ISIL site )〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=About Us )〕 as the Society for Individual Liberty,〔Rebecca E. Klatch, (''A Generation Divided: The New Left, the New Right, and the 1960s'' ), University of California Press, 1999 ISBN 0-520-21714-4, 12, 231, 263〕 founded by Don Ernsberger and Dave Walter. The current name was adopted in 1989 after a merger with Libertarian International was coordinated by Vincent Miller,〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Ballot Access News - Founder of Libertarian International Dies )〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Party mourns passing of International Society for Individual Liberty President )〕 who became president of the new organization. Jim Elwood is the current executive director, with board members including Mary Ruwart and Ken Schoolland. ISIL has members in over 80 countries.〔(Liberty Guide )〕
==Activities==
The society sponsors an annual international conference which has attracted libertarian, classical liberal, and other political luminaries from Milton Friedman to the President of Costa Rica.〔 It also sponsors a variety of educational materials and member projects from its website, and in recent years has incorporated other libertarian entities such as Laissez Faire Books and the Freedom News Daily.〔(Freedom News Daily )〕
